Environment and Sustainable Design - SolidWorks Sustainability in SolidWorks 2010 - AKA SolidWorks SAGE
SolidWorks is partnering with PE International and its North American division, PE Americas to develop a Sustainable Design TaskPane that will enable engineers to determine the ‘environmental impact’ of their design.
Just how green is that product you are developing? - One of the key developments for release with SolidWorks 2010 is based on Project Sage. “Sage,” will be available in two product forms with this fall’s release of SolidWorks 2010: an “Xpress” version included with every license of SolidWorks and a “Professional” version. Both the Xpress and Professional products will display a dashboard at the bottom of the SolidWorks user interface that illustrates a design’s prospective carbon footprint, air impact, water impact, and energy consumed in manufacturing. The Professional version will roll up the impact of an entire designed product across its environmental life cycle and also include information on energy consumption throughout a product’s use phase.
SolidWorks Sage is the only CAD-integrated software to provide a comprehensive view of a design’s environmental impact. Its analysis, for example, accounts for where the product will be manufactured and used. This determines environmental factors such as: where and how raw material is mined; transportation impacts; energy production (e.g., coal, nuclear, hydroelectric, etc.); and power consumption. This comprehensive view allows engineers to be confident that their decisions don’t have hidden negative impacts and that they aren’t missing any positive impacts. A report can be generated then exported.

It will be bundled with every license of SolidWorks starting in 2010. However it will be available for download at SolidWorks Labs Summer 09.
SolidWorks 2010 Beta Program - Beta 2 is now available (Possibly 4 Beta releases before the Full Release this fall)
Each new release of SolidWorks is preceded by a beta program. This allows users to try out new fuctionality, and lets SolidWorks gather your feedback before the release is finalized. Influence the development of the software AND earn points toward great prizes! Click the image above to learn more.
The program is open to customers with current subscription service. (Only current Solidworks Enterprise PDM customers with subscription can participate in SolidWorks Enterprise PDM Beta.) Log-in and see the Top 10 Beta Testers, check the status of bugs you find, and see what’s coming for the future of CAD.
