Mechanical Design/Engineering
The majority of our team’s expertise in this discipline involves complex mechanical system & machine design. We’ve worked on projects involving the design of chassis, housings, and similar items for the electronics industry. Our designers and engineers have also worked with startup medical companies in the development and “productization” of their concepts and inventions. The Alignex team has also worked with companies in the woodworking and furniture industries.

Detailing and Documentation
Alignex can provide services for either new or updates to your legacy engineering documentation. We can also create assembly drawings for previously undocumented mechanical systems. We’ve also completed documentation (shop drawings) for structural engineers and others in the AEC industry.

Structural Finite Element Analysis
When your product development project schedule does not permit multiple prototype cycles, computer simulation is a helpful option. Finite Element Analysis is the widely accepted mechanical engineering discipline we use to assess product performance prior to physical prototype build and test. This method shortens the development cycle and helps your team identify preferred design options. Our team can provide your engineers with insights to the linear and non-linear stress and strain behavior of your product designs.

Dynamic Systems Analysis
Kinematic or dynamic modeling of mechanisms or systems enables engineers to size motors/actuators, determine power consumption, layout linkages, develop cams, understand gear drives, size springs/dampers, and determine how contacting parts behave. This results in a reduction in physical prototyping costs and reduced product development time. The resultant forces and moments can be more accurately identified prior to applying them in a structural FEA analysis.

Thermal Finite Element Analysis
Thermal analysis is most commonly used in electronic packaging design, but has a wide variety of other applications as well. Often an object will fail because of stresses induced by uneven heating, rapid temperature change or mismatched material thermal properties. Alignex Thermal FEA Services can model and help predict the temperatures of objects exposed to power flows, conduction, convection, and radiation.

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Analysis
CFD analysis allows an engineer to mathematically characterize fluid flow within their design so that the best alternative is selected. Alignex has used CFD applications to analyze pumps, medical devices, and hydraulic components.

Data Migration
A service to legacy CAD and/or PDM data from one system to another. These are typically time and materials based projects using Alignex’ proven methodology of PDM data migration. Our CAD data migration expertise is in migrating AutoCAD and I-deas data into SolidWorks. Most of our PDM data conversions involve migrating metadata from older, flat file based systems into newer PDM/PLM architectures architected around relational database technology. Our internally developed AlignexL software can also be purchased by the customer and customized for data transformation applications.

Data Translation
Alignex will use the powerful suite of translators included w/ SolidWorks as well as key third party translators to convert your 3D CAD geometry into a format that can be used by your customers or suppliers. We can correct model geometry issues as well using our design staff. This additional service is completed on a time and materials basis.
