The Challenge
Best Buy Company, Inc., is the premier consumer electronics retailer in the United States. Growing at a fast rate, the company needed a software solution to provide photorealistic renderings for conceptual evaluation as well as final engineering drawings for production.
The Solution
We chose SolidWorks software for its ease-of-use and value compared to other CAD packages. We evaluated Pro/ENGINEER, Mechanical Desktop, Alias, Form Z, and Rhinoceros. We decided against these because of high cost, long learning curves, and lack of required features. The single-window integration with PhotoWorks rendering software was the major factor in our decision to purchase SolidWorks. We often need to provide concept drawings of our ideas to the marketing department for approval, and having this tool allows us to communicate our ideas more effectively to non-visual thinkers. We also use Toolbox and eDrawings.
The Virtual Car Vehicle is used in our retail stores to demonstrate new automotive electronic products.
